Matwork Pilates

Pilates focuses on stretching and strengthening the whole body to improve balance, muscle strength, tone, flexibility and posture.

The moves and postures are usually performed with body weight alone on the ground using an exercise mat. Over the years, mat has evolved to include small pieces of equipment such as resistance rings, balls and bands. Even without added equipment, the workout is challenging and provides great toning benefits.

At Clinic Equilibrium, we keep our classes small with a maximum of 8 clients, allowing our instructors to give the highest client care.

Mat work is a great option for beginners because of its emphasis on learning how to control your muscles during exercises.

We have the following matwork Pilates classes on offer:

  • Beginner
  • Back Care
  • Intermediate to Advanced
  • Antenatal Pilates
  • Mummy and Baby Pilates

” When I started coming to Clinic Equilibrium I had issues with my hips and knees, to the point where I struggled to kneel down or walk long distances. Three months later I’m pain free and have even started running. The Reformer Pilates machines looked pretty scary, but they are actually amazing and really enhance the sessions. The classes are great, they are small so the instructors really get to know your individual limitations. They push you but never beyond what you can do. It’s great going to classes and being able to do a little more everytime, I was so excited the first time I touched my toes from straight legs! “

Please note: As is mandatory as part of our clinical service and for safety reasons, all class participants must complete a 30-minute pre-class assessment where we take a medical history, discuss any health issues and check the range and mobility of the spine and hips in readiness for the class.
